I’m obviously not a fan of Meir Kahane but this doesn’t mean I disagree with everything he said. He recognized if Israel adopted an American style democracy based purely on citizenship, Jews would once again end up in a minority. The fact is the modern definition of democracy is not compatible with ethnic based states.. In other words, if every nation adopted a citizenship model like the US than there would be no such thing as ethnic homelands.
When ancient Greeks defined democracy 1.0 they recognized minorities from other states were less likely to share the identity and interests of their state. Minorities tend to prioritize their own interests. Greeks from other city states would sometimes be refused citizenship for this reason.. Even Aristotle was not an Athenian citizen. Despite living in Athens, despite being Greek, other Athenians viewed him with suspicion because he came from Stagira and had close relations with Macedon.
In the modern era we have redefined democracy to be more inclusive. This is admirable in many respects but has created an unspoken problem…ethnic homelands are not possible when everyone regardless of identity is given equal rights. Rather than address this issue like adults. billions play a game where they support ethnic pluralism.. but only in states other than their own ethnic homeland..
While globalism is easy to say in theory, in practice most humans still have to various degrees of tribal and territorial instincts we inherited from our savage ancestors. Maybe one day we will evolve to something greater but in this moment .that’s the way things are. Trying to rob people of their homelands as leftist do, demonstratable ends up with the counter reaction of extreme nationalism. Like the communists they mean well but leftists extreme positions on issues like migration and what they frame as “human rights” has the net oppose effect of what they intended as it pushes out the tribal instincts..
