I was raised a Christian. Even believed it as a kid. Fortunately I had an interest in philosophy which exposed me to different points of view. The closest to belief in a deity I think I’ll ever get is what Einstein called Spinoza’s god. German philospher Rudolf Otto wrote something similar but more on the mystical side of things which he called the numinous…. the feeling of awe and wonder he got when thinking about his deity. Carl Sagan adopted this to science. Rather than deities he saw awe and wonder in the grandeur of the universe. Loved Sagan and Einstein. Two of my favorite people of the 20th century. They weren’t just scientists.. they were poets for science. They inspired millions more to become scientists themselves.
