Am not going to defend the brutal killing of civilians at the hands of Hamas, but likewise I am not going to defend how Israel responded to the attack or how it behaved in the run up to the assault – on multiple occasions annually for decades. Violence begets violence and when you have a situation where people are kept under siege, denied autonomy, denied access to airspace, seaspace, are subject to regular military incursions and killings with impunity, dehumanisation, history teaches us that violent uprisings become inevitable risk. It nothing to do with Jew hating, it’s oppressor hating. If Israel was a Christian or Hindu nationalist state occupying Palestine, the hatred would be the same.
An investigation into the events of Oct 7 would help to establish fact from fiction since some of the initial reports have since proved false while others suggest that IDF tank and helicopter fire were responsible for many of the deaths.
Am not excusing any atrocities commited by Hamas, but it’s important for the families of the victims to have the facts.
