This is simply wrong. Jews have always been Zionist. We were forged in the Land of Israel and whenever exiled we sought to return – whether by the rivers of Babylon where we wept and remembered Zion (cf Psalm 137) or when they returned during the reign of Cyrus the Great.
Jews have always lived in the Land of Israel and even tried to return in the 12th century (e.g. Rabbi Yehuda Halevi & Maimonides). In the 12th century (Nachmanides), in the 13th century (Tosafists and Rabbi Yechiel), 16th century (Doña Gracia and Safed revival), 17th century (Sabbatai Zevi and his followers), and on and on.
For going on two thousands years Jews have prayed to return to Jerusalem in the Amidah prayer 3 times a day and always said “Next Year in Jerusalem” at the end of each Seder. I could easily provide 50 more examples.
In short, Jews and Israel have been inextricably linked with the Land of Israel, their ancestral homeland for millennia. Anyone who bothers to study Jewish history cannot deny that Jews have always been Zionists.
Any attempt to de-link Jews from Zion are politically motivated and ahistorical.
