True…and when the war escalates, Israel isn’t going to be able to delete all the saved copies of the current mocking that will be replayed when its Israel expecting sympathy because a Hezbollah missile has devastated some of their own children. Instead of the expected outrage over photos of dead Israeli children buried in rubble somewhere in Tel Aviv…all of this mocking will come back to haunt them.
I say “when” the war escalates rather than “if” the war escalates because I have no confidence that Israel will stop killing until all of the Palestinians are dead. Which means that for the war to NOT escalate, the entire world will have to stand by and watch while taking no action. Technically, that is possible, but each government that fails to intervene loses the respect of its own citizens. When the citizens lose confidence in their government to do the right thing, it erodes any moral basis for citizens to support their government.
Sadly this can’t be measured directly, but you can get a hint of the underlying sentiment with such things as military recruiting goals not being met.

Its not simply the obvious reason that people don’t want to risk their lives supporting something they see as evil, but if trust in the government erodes, why would a young military enlistee believe that the government will keep its promise to provide VA care if they get injured?
Erosion of trust can manifest in many ways…from the passive disbelief in anything the government says (Covid warnings) to the opposite end of the passive spectrum with tax revolt…and then beyond with voter disengagement signaling a sense of public futility in the effort. In the US, the act of voting signals public belief in the legitimacy of the system. When that breaks down, it signals that the public has about reached the end of its tolerance and replacement of the government is an option growing more popular.
