Interestingly, the rate of birth defects amongst Palestinians is quite high due to consanguinity (cousins procreating with cousins). Approximately 70 out of 1000 Palestinian babies are born with birth defects, about 40% higher than the rate of birth defects amongst, e.g., Europeans, who tend not to marry their cousins. It is actually the Palestinians who have a statistical tendency towards inbreeding.
