This is nonsense. Even Israel’s Supreme Court has ruled that there is no such thing as a “voluntary” human shield. People living at home are not human shields and Hamas is not using people living in their homes as human shields. To even suggest such a thing is preposterous. The problem is Israel and the US definition of Hamas as “terrorists.” For them, the definition allows them to attack whomever they deem to be a “terrorist” 24/7 and wherever. The whole idea of putting Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians on Hamas is also preposterous. It is Israel’s responsibility “to care” about making sure civilians are not placed in the centre of combat, which is the very definition of human shield. Moreover, a human shield is defined as a civilian, protected person, someone hors du combat that is used by the other party (the one in control of them) as a shield. In other words, Israel uses Palestinians as human shields. And the IDF uses them to protect itself against Hamas. It’s why the IDF has blown up everything. Because it would have been suicidal for the IDF to enter into a ground war in Gaza with Hamas. It’s not just the tunnels the IDF was worried about, Gaza is Hamas’ territory. That’s the big excuse, Gaza is “complex battle space.” In other words, full of civilians and civilian infrastructure, because Israel crammed them there and put them behind walls. Hamas is part of Gaza. It grew there. It did not infiltrate there.
