Protests where there is rampant lawlessness should face policing. Peaceful protests that have crackdowns by authorities is undemocratic. In this particular instance the protestors are mostly peaceful but an ideological problem with many of them is they have aligned themselves with militants that support Hamas. They use phrases like “river to the sea”. Or vague “free Palestine’. Or antizionism rhetoric. A more balanced approach would be support “two-state solution”. Or to oppose antiPalestinian and antisemitism. Opposition to any fanatics that play on either side and supporting compromise would be more credible as anti-war and principled based.
