Unfortunately the belligerents do not seek peace at this time. The UN has its mandate since 2006 to keep the militias north of the Litani River. As we see the UNIFIL troops see nothing, hear nothing and say nothing … and definitely do nothing when the Shia Islamist militias stroll by them for the last eighteen years. With the UNIFIL complacency, south of the LItani has become a fortified militarised zone for the Party of God fighters, aka: Ḥizbu ‘llāh.
