Meirshemier is a great intellect. He’s well worth listening to on virtually every issue he talks about. When it comes to Israel, he’s right about some in AIPEC messing around with American democracy. He’s half right about the conflict with Palestinians. Jews did conquer the region to form Israel. In that sense he’s right but he makes a mistake looking at history through a shallow lens of just the last few hundred years.
Jews have a right to homeland like everyone else. What is a more appropriate place then the place where Judaism started? The modern Palestinians have been given a sh-tty hand by history. They are not personally to blame for past conquests that took away the Jewish homeland but they also have to understand they are not the only ones that have ever lived in the region. A two state solution would be fair. A population exchange to make it work would make it more stable. That’s what has created stability in past similar conflicts. It may not bring eternal peace to the region or world but it will improve the situation for both sides in the short and medium term so they can focus more on trade than conflict.
