This 1922 League of Nations conditionality that I refer to:
Article 2 The Mandatory shall be responsible for placing the country under such political, administrative and economic conditions as will secure the Mandate for Palestine – League of Nations (12 August 1922) 2 establishment of the Jewish national home, as laid down in the preamble, and the development of self-governing institutions, and also for safeguarding the civil and religious rights of all the inhabitants of Palestine, irrespective of race and religion.
There is no contention as to Harry S Truman’s determination to abide by US Constitutional principle and with the UN’s likewise Human Rights principle, in 1945.
That for reason of his own narrow self interest in 1946 he began to reneg upon these principles, is also well documented. And likewise: that the US Department of State laboured mightily to ensure the US continued to abide by her UN membership responsibility and with the US Constitutional responsibility, until late in 1948 . . . is also well documented.
