These buildings were no longer mosques when Hamas started using them as headquarters, to store munitions and house military operatives. According to the Geneva Convention these places can be legitimate military targets when used like this. Same applies to schools, hospitals and other public places. It also applies to ambulances which Hamas has already been using used for military purposes.
