If that were true, you might have a point. I believe that Israelis would be happy if Arabs had chose to build an independent nation and live at peace with their neighbors. In hindsight, it would have saved a lot of lives and resources for everyone concerned.
The refusal by Arab States to accept UN Partition Resolution 181 (1947) demonstrated that Palestinian Arabs were not interested in establishing their own state if it meant allowing the existence of a Jewish state. –This opposition to acknowledging the right of a Jewish state to even exist still lies at the core of the conflict 75 years later, after Jews broke their backs to build a viable nation, to include two million Palestinian Arabs as Israeli citizens.
