There were no compelling reasons why these two very
powerful Muslim countries should have drifted apart.
People need to remember that after World War II, the
young man who came to be known as the Shah of Iran
and who would remain on his throne for over three
decades allowed the Western powers to come and suck
away Iran’s resources. The current government arrived
as the saviors of their country from foreign
exploitation. The beneficiaries of this reconciliation
between Iran and Saudi Arabia will be both countries
and the entire Middle Eastern region. But I am
beginning to wonder if that is going to work out for
the Iranians if the Saudis normalized with the European
Jews who committed so many horrific crimes against the
Palestinians.
