You are right to hold this skepticism. Some of my relatives as many hard core left liberal elected to live and raise families near Gaza. In fact most settlements around Gaza were mostly left leaning. Some relatives of mine used to drive couple times a week into Gaza pick sick people and drive them to get free medical treatment in Israel. They are now homeless since Oct 7th. That day had the majority of Gazans celebrating the rape and murders of those who chose to live near by and offer a helpful hand
