In 1973 only a few hours before Egypt and Syria were to begin their attack on the Jews, the Jews had no idea what was coming. They had so much contempt for the Arabs that even when they were told from credible sources that Syria and Egypt were getting ready to attack, they dismissed it as just rumors. Kissinger said that the Arabs were always bluffing. Then wham! Then the Jews went crying to America and they made a deal that America will start paying Egypt billions of dollars so that it does not happen again. They understood that as long as Egypt renamed the enemy the enemy of Jews that their survival in Palestine was not guaranteed. They were so scared of Egypt that they decided to return to Egypt the Sinai Peninsula which meant a lot to them and but giving it up was worth it to them. What the War of 1973 which happened exactly 50 years ago has in common with the war of October 2023 was the timing: the one in 1973 happened on October 6th and the one in 2023 happened on October 7th. But in both cases, the surprise attack would not have succeeded if they had not kept their preparations completely secret.
