The French caused the problem that we see in Syria today. When they arrived to occupy Syria in 1918, 90% of the population of Syria were Sunni and only 10% were the Alawite and power was in the hands of the majority Sunni population. But the French devised an evil plan for Syria when they decided to recruit into the army from the minority Alawite population. When the French finally left Syria, power was firmly held in the hands of the Alawites and that was the reason why the Assad family came to power. Of course the 90% of the Sunni population of Syria have been resenting the Alawites. But here we are today and the Sunni population is back in power. What needs to happen is that there has to be an understanding and they have to find a way for the Syrian people to live together in peace.
