You can thank Hamas for intentionally and purposely inviting Israel into Gaza on Oct 7, 2023, by way of massacring Israelis and rounding up hundreds of hostages of all ages. Hamas had to know in advance that Israel would have to respond in a very aggressive manner. It was just another bad choice by Palestinian leadership.
