Plato was brilliant for his time but also believed dumb things too. His opposition to democracy was one of them. The reason why democracy works is because it allows smart ideas too. An electorate can vote their way to dumb ideas but with time they can eventually vote their way to smart ideas too. It’s empirical. With authoritarian forms of government you are stuck in dumb.
