I’ve never seen so much good will tossed away so quickly. When Trump obtained the Gaza ceasefire he garnered tremendous good will across the Arab and Muslim world. One could read the admiration everywhere. He could have achieved much by using it to continue working with the realities and sentiments on the ground. Instead he pivoted and bullied against them. All that good will is going down in flames. He has one chance to put it right again: See the ceasefire all the way through and get the reconstruction going, and get real talks and negotiations going as well between the real people on the ground. Otherwise, it’s as if the plane that crashed out of the DC sky is now the inauspicious omen that marks his presidency.
