Jerusalem ’48 –’67 history
The Arabs could have had their own state in ’48 along with an open Jerusalem. The UN Resolution called for free access to the religious sites for all.
Instead, the Arabs attacked Israel with five armies with the proclaimed intent of “driving the Jews into the sea!”. The Jews beat back the Arab armies, but, lost Jerusalem. At that time , the Jordanian Army ethnically cleansed the Jews out of the millennia-old ( East Jerusalem) “Jewish Quarter”, dynamited Jewish houses of worship, took gravestones from the ancient Mt Olives Cemetery for paving roads, turned the Western (“Wailing “) Wall it a public latrine, and forbade Jews from accessing their holy sites.
For 19 years , Jordan OCCUPIED the West Bank and Jerusalem. In June of ’67 , Jordan attacked Israel from their bases in the West Bank. Israel responded and drove the Jordanians out , and back into Jordan. Once done, the Jews reopened Jerusalem to ALL religions and repopulated East Jerusalem with Jews. Only the victors get to write history . Not the Arab losers who wasted opportunities for peace due to their own hate, self-delusion, jihadism, and bad leadership. .
