Sharks are beautiful creatures, esp. Great Whites. The aftermath of the 1975 movie ‘Jaws’ created a fear factor of sharks, this unfair “monster of the sea” demonization led to their culling. The director Spielberg bore culpability for this & didn’t seek to redress the situation. Shame, b/c he owes his career to that film. However, the author Peter Benchley whose book inspired the film did apply himself to make amends.
Despite my aversion to films I do highly rate Spielbergs directing on ‘Jaws’, it’s a classic. Recall watching it for the first time as a boy in the ’80s, still can’t get over the ending where the young Dreyfuss miraculously pops up 🙄 in scuba gear. What a downer! .. as I’d completely forgotten about him – my fave character was ‘Quint’ [Robert Shaw].
