Re: UK’s new Premier Starmer calls for ‘clear, urgent’ need for cease-fire in Gaza – Middle East Monitor

You appear to think only of today, Mr Pooh. And are troubled little by the legal mess in the future – as Historic Palestine’s peoples look to avail themselves of their ‘lawful rights’, in the aftermath of what today nears 80 years of Occupation.

1919’s US representatives King and Crane jointly recommended: “a national home for the Jewish people” is not equivalent to making Palestine into a Jewish State; nor can the erection of such a Jewish State be accomplished without the gravest trespass upon the “civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine.”

At the 2006 Palestinian Legislative Council election (the last time that the Palestinians were given the chance to elect their government), Hamas secured 76 out of 132 seats and effectively became the ruling power in Palestine, the occupied and densely-populated Gaza Strip as well as the West Bank. A poll by the Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey also found that 53 per cent of Palestinians view Hamas as the most suitable representative of the Palestinian people. The mandate of President Mahmoud Abbas expired in 2009
