Re: US Senator Bernie Sanders calls on Israel to open borders for humanitarian aid

Speaking on a broader philosophical level…

In ancient Greek version of democracy, a citizen was defined by someone being from the Greek city state in question and being Greek Woman, non-Greeks and slaves could not vote.

In the modern era we have expanded the term democracy to be more inclusively to all including minorities. In most respects this is admirable but it has created an unspoken contradiction. A minority typically seeks to protect their own identity and culture which puts them into conflict with the identity of the majority in the nation. This problem is especially evident for ethnic based states where another demographic could eventually vote their way to a completely different state (and I’m not only talking Israel China, Greece, Sweden, Germany, Korea, Japan, etc, etc).

The fact is under the current definition of “human rights’ and “democracy” there no way to guarantee an ethnic homeland with such a broad definition. There is a contradiction today between the concept of homeland and democracy that unfortunately alleged journalists, human rights groups and politicians ignore. Rather than honestly debate this issue to find some solution that is fair to all, many pretend this contradiction does not exist. So the issue hangs out there as a source of perpetual conflict in the world.

IMO there needs to be a tweaking of the definitions of “human rights” and “democracy” to account for this homeland issue. Either we get rid of homelands or our definitions needs to change again to reflect the reality of how nations conduct themselves.
