Beinart is wrong. Judaism and democracy are compatible in both theory and practice.
Islam and democracy are only compatible in theory. Arabs citizens of Israel, both men and women, have had the right to vote since 1949. Arabs in the PA and Gaza haven’t voted since 2005 because their leadership is afraid to let them. Jews under either Arab authority have no right to vote at all.
He’s also wrong about the cause of violence. Most violent jihadists are well off members of the middle class. UNRWA’s racist curriculum which breeds a sense of entitlement and a love of martyrdom is a major impediment to peace. If Palestinians were truly social justice warriors they’d be overthrowing and eliminating their own leaders, most of whom they label as traitors.
