Re: What is the point of the UN Security Council?

The fictional Duchy of Grand Fenwick has more moral fiber than the entirety of Algeria, and therein lies the problem. Algeria OTOH is a totalitarian basket case. Othmani believes that the sole value of the UN is to warp it towards an anti-American and anti-Israel agenda, but so are nearly half the other nations that make up the UN.

The UN is a debating society where nations let off steam and its diplomats get padded expense accounts in order to attend cocktail parties and other perks. It also has a highly bloated and overpaid bureaucracy who’s income is tax free. It should not be confused with a governing democratic body. None of the representatives are elected and there is no notion of proportional representation or responsibility to constituents. Nor is political theory advanced enough to make such an entity work in practice.
