Am not justifying the expulsion of the Mizrahi Jews, who’re indigenous to the region, just explaining the events leading up to it. The ‘pogrom’ in Iraq happened against the backdrop of WW2 following the British victory in the Anglo-Iraqi War. As we saw during the invasion of Iraq and more recently in Syria, sectarian violence always follows regime change and often minority groups become the victims. The Alawite population in Syria have been subject to a severakl pogroms recently since the ousting of Assad.
