Agreed, and nobody asked the Druze and Kurds
if they would like to have a state of their own, either.
As a thought exercise, consider what might have been,
if Zionists could have visited Palestinians and discussed
the arrival of large numbers of Jews, explaining to them
that they would bring with them enormous improvements in
health, education and welfare for all, and that at first there would be
dislocations as society switched from a rural society to a modern one,
but in the end, most would be better off.
The land-owning effendis would still vote against it, but
many of the sharecroppers and working poor likely would have been happy
to participate in the prosperity that Jewish immigrants were bringing.
The Nakba wouldn’t have happened.
Palestine would have been a paradise on Earth today.
The cost of this internecine violence is staggering.
