You make a fair counterpoint that in most cases its nationalism being the guiding rule rather than prosperity. Just throwing out ideas.
As for the so-called “Macedonians”… I didn’t support the Prespa Agreement which was stuffed down our throat by our now former commie loving PM Tsipras. We support it officially on a national level only because we have to honour the agreement. Trust me when I say this dispute is far from over. The mass media and policians pretending they don’t notice their violation of Prespa (to hide their mistake of recognizing them) isn’t going to make the issue go away.
The Slavs are about as Macedonians as Palestinians are the Maccabees. Zilch. Zero Nada. They mostly used to self-identify as Bulgarians prior to Yugoslav communists (which is why the Bulgarians are also hostile towards them for rewriting Bulgarian history along with Greek) . You are all (i.e. the world not just Jews), unambiguously, engaged in ethnic engineering…..at Greece’s expense. And you are dead wrong that they don’t want to exterminate Greeks. Their bizarre attempt to narrate themselves into antihellenic founders of the Hellenistic period is not exactly not obvious. It’s an implicit attempt to rob us of our very identity.
To understand our perspective and how strongly most Greeks still feel about this issue… would you recognize Palestinians as the Macabees if they start identifying that way? And how would you view others if they did and started to pretend not to notice their attempts to rob you of your Jewish identity?
