Yours is an irrational appeal to pathos based on the misconceptions I outlined above. No one desires the death of innocent children and that is not the intent of Israeli operations in Gaza.
If you have any pragmatic alternatives to removing Hamas and dismantling their offensive capabilities then please do so, but do not pretend to be virtuous. Hamas and their associates committed atrocities on October 7th and have seriously threatened to do the same again and again. A proportionate response is to take that threat seriously, which you do not. The process of appeasement which Israel attempted prior to Oct 7 (work permits for Gazans, money transfers from Qatar, allowing the import of goods and construction materials, supplying electricity & 10% of Gaza’s water) gave Hamas the opportunity to meticulously plan a massacre and kidnappings as well as build an impressive arsenal. Your pseudo morality aside, the ratio of civilian to combatant deaths appears to be ~2:1 which is below the norm for urban warfare.
Collateral casualties are an unfortunate consequence of war. Civilian ethical strictures which you enjoy behind the safety of your keyboard only partially apply as war is an exceptional circumstance. Whereas Israel complies with the established ethics of LOAC (Laws of Armed Conflict – you should read and review it), Hamas routinely violates these ethical norms.
Hamas started this war and did so for religious reasons, to “liberate al Aqsa”. Nor is this the first time – this time they have run out of 2nd chances. They are not in favor of ethics such as freedom, social equality, democracy, checks and balances or toleration of difference.
