During the first world gulf war I remember the world was united against Saddam. I can’t remember a single instance in history were virtually the entire planet worked together in this manner. Lead by the US under Bush senior, it was a great moment for humanity.
Then I think back after what happened after 9/11. Nearly the entire world condemned the attack.. then buffoon Bush Jr blew it by attacking Iraq that absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. It was plainly obvious to anyone with half a brainstem that he was using 9/11 purely as a pretext to serve what he saw as neo-conservative interests rather than moral principle. American’s got caught up in the patriotic rhetoric so they attacked Iraq which just created another nightmare later with ISIS arising.
What the US should have done is focus their energies on Afghanistan that harboured Bin Ladin and stayed there for as long as necessary so Afghans got use to democracy over theocracy. Had Afghanistan’s economy been allowed to prosper it would have been a symbol for the rest of Islamic world to choose democracy. Bush fricken used state sponsored torture for goodness sake. By the terms of the Geneva convention he’s fricken war criminal. He should be in prison not playing rounds of golf. When nations seek their interests at the expense of moral principle they lose the moral high ground on an issue.
