This is the 21st century, and Germany is currently experiencing a large influx of refugees, and is the largest refugee-hosting country in the European Union. In 2022, Germany saw a record high net immigration of 1.5 million people.
In 2023, Germany received more than 300,000 asylum applications, which is 60% more than 2022. In 2024, Germany is expected to receive around 270,000 new asylum applications.
