Re: Israel rejects Spain’s request to cancel East Jerusalem Consulate restrictions

Actually, according to the latest demographic data, for the first time since the second century, the largest Jewish community in the world today is in Israel. At this rate, it will only be a few more years before over half of all Jews in the world will be living in Israel.

Israel surpassed the US Jewish community a few years ago. Check under “Jewish Population by Country” in Wikipedia.

There are many reasons why not ALL Jews live in Israel. They have full lives in their host countries and it is not so easy for them to leave. Imagine you are a lawyer and you have to learn another language at a very technical level as well as an entirely different legal system in order to be accredited. Same is true for doctors, actors, engineers, etc. Also, you will probably have to start at a lower level and definitely at a lower salary.

Secondly, people have property. They have their loved ones. Their deceased in the cemeteries. Some are afraid because of Islamic terrorism and pogroms like October 7. Some are just assimilated and do Judaism at most twice a year. In the US, since 2010, over 70% are intermarried and have their spouses and their spouse’s families to consider.

Still, if you consider that both American Jewry and the first mass immigration to Israel started in the 1880s, you’d see that the fact that Israel has surpassed the US in numbers of Jews clearly demonstrates that Zionism has been more successful in the long run.

PS Check out a Population pyramid of Israel and you will discover that 45% of the population is under the age of 30. That clearly proves that the future of Judaism is in Israel and not in other jewish communities around the world who are aging and anti-natalist like their host populations.
