Firstly, the Armenian stat is debatable. Erdogan since 2002 has on numerous occasions proposed the forming of a joint commission, comprising historians & scholars with his Armenian counterparts. With the aim of settling the debate, & establishing mutually accepted truths. Erdogans refrain was “Lets open up the archives, & leave the matter to the experts”. The offer was turned down each time by the Armenians.
The implication is that the Turkish side has nothing to hide. Whereas the Armenians seek to politicize the events, which won’t bear results if it turns out that the main perpetrators were Kurds, who acted on impulse, not on orders as you’ve claimed.
Secondly, the ‘Young Turks’ were multi-ethnic despite their title. Mehmet Talat was half Romany gypsy. Among CUP govt. members were Greeks, & crypto-Jews known as ‘Donmeh’. For sure the Donmeh despised the Christian Armenians, & didn’t want the competition that the business savvy Armenians posed in post-Ottoman Anatolia.
Talat Pasha had fallen for a Jewess. One wonders if she factored in his decision making. Whatever, the outcome was tragically sad. Armenians were known as “Millet-i Sadika” [Loyal people] by the Ottoman Turks. They had a long history of peaceful relations.
